Meet Dr. Taylor

SHIRA TAYLOR, MD, CCFP

Family physician: Focused practice in psychotherapy since 2014 with a special interest in mind/body/spirit approaches to healing and wellness.  Her practice focuses on group psychotherapy.

Dr. Taylor provides clinical services for people struggling with a wide variety of life difficulties including depression, anxiety, PTSD, Complex Trauma, chronic pain, chronic illness, grief, sexuality, religious and spiritual challenges. She brings a unique trauma-informed approach to mindfulness and operates from an anti-oppressive framework.

TRAINING

Her groups and workshops are informed by the training she has done in a range of largely somatic psychotherapeutic modalities including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Psychodrama, Psychodramatic bodywork, and Havening. She also incorporates MBCT, ACT and CBT in your work. Through her groups and individual psychotherapy practice, she helps people use the tools of mindful awareness, breath work, relaxation, somatic body work, psychodrama, and reflection to connect with their inner source of joy, love, and creativity as they navigate the rough waters of life.

In addition, she is a trained yoga instructor through the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Organization and brings to her practice not only her medical expertise but also the lived experience of extensive and rigorous meditation and yoga training in India and Canada.

AFFILIATIONS

Dr. Taylor is a faculty member with the Ontario College of Family Physicians and is a research partner with Faculty in the Department of Psychology Neuroscience & Behaviour at McMaster University.

Dr. Taylor is a member in good standing of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and is a Clinical Member of the Medical Psychotherapy Association of Canada (MDPAC).

Dr. Taylor’s psychotherapy services are covered by OHIP provided that you have a valid health card.
